It showed up without a past.
No initials etched in the silver, no anniversary dates, no family crest to prove its place in the world.
Just a polished Revere bowl, gleaming with the kind of confidence that suggests it knows it was meant for better things. We didn’t argue.
Now it lives here at the Retreat, pressed into service as a candle. Some carry a single wick, smoldering like a secret best left untold; others insist on two, burning in unison as if narrating the story themselves.
Either way, the bowl throws its light around like it owns the room — reflecting walls, glassware, and expressions with a certain self-importance we can’t help admiring.
Is it an heirloom?
Not officially.
But light it in the library, on the porch, or beside the bath and watch what happens: guests lower their voices, the evening stretches, and suddenly the candle without an inscription is acting as though it’s always belonged.
We let it.
