n 1963, beneath the bunting and brass of a horse show (quite possibly Devon — though the initials D.J.H.S. refuse to tell us plainly), a rider trotted out of the ring with this very bowl. Silver-plated, engraved, and destined to be admired for a season or two before retiring to the back of a cabinet, it carried the quiet satisfaction of victory.

We’ve given it new life. Poured with clean soy wax and fitted with a single wick, it burns with a soft, steady glow and the faintest hint of fir — the kind of scent that calls to mind polished tack trunks, cedar shavings, and pine trees lining a showground. The engraving rests at the rim, visible as the flame flickers, reminding you that whether it was Devon Junior Horse Show or some other grand initials, glory was once awarded here.

Now, instead of a fleeting ribbon, it’s a candle that lasts as long as you let it. When the wax is gone, the bowl remains — ready for peppermints, cufflinks, or the smug satisfaction of knowing you own a piece of equestrian mystery.

Because sometimes the best trophies are the ones you can light on fire.

Sheffield silver plate, 4.25 inches wide, soy wax, wooden wick, smells faintly of fir

caution, will be hot while burning
